Agra Risk Solutions Inc. is a Strathmore, Alberta based partnership focused on cattle and grain production, marketing and risk management for itself and behalf of some of Western Canada’s largest agriculture clients. Each of the partner members individually has 20 plus year track records of successfully developing and managing large scale livestock and grain operations.
Active in large scale crop and cattle production for over twenty years, Mr. Appleyard focuses on educational and systematic approaches to training farm families, corporations and banks on agricultural risk management. He is a founding partner of One World Financial Partners LLC; an investment fund networked worldwide with the ability to finance any size of agricultural projects with experts in all aspects of investment banking.
Mr. Appleyard is also is the owner and president of Appleyard Land and Cattle with 2400 head of cows and several thousand feeder cattle. He is also a former president and owner of a 25,000 head feedyard and 20,000 acre grain farming company. Greg is excited to be transforming his career into helping ag companies and family farms design operational, marketing, and risk management strategies that build and preserve capital in volatile markets.
Anne Leeper was born and raised on the historic Quilchena Cattle Co. in the heart of British Columbia’s interior grasslands. She is the great granddaughter of Joseph Guichon who homesteaded the land and started the ranch in the 1880’s growing it into one of the largest ranching operations in BC. Growing up and working with the cattle and horses on the ranch, Ms. Leeper furthered her education by earning her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences degree from Montana State University. She then moved to Alberta to gain experience in the feedlot industry. In 1996 Ms. Leeper was hired by Cattleland Feedyards Ltd to manage their Bull Test and Evaluation Centre. At that time it was the largest bull testing facility in Canada performance testing over 3,000 breeding bulls each year. It was here where she met Mr. Appleyard and worked until March 2013. Ms. Leeper also served on the board of directors for the Quilchena Cattle Co. group of companies until December 2013.
Ms. Leeper currently manages the administration and inventory flow for Agra Risk Solutions Inc. and is a Managing Partner.
Mr. Reiling has been actively involved in the Calgary and area business community for over 10 years. He began working in commercial real estate and has continued to be actively involved in the field while pursuing other opportunities.
Before joining Agra Risk Solutions Inc. in January of 2014 Mr. Reiling was working for a fuel distribution company based out of Calgary. While there, he oversaw the dispatch and delivery of over 200 million liters of fuel annually and saw the organization grow from a fleet from 13 to over 20 trucks. This experience combined with his connections within the central Alberta ag industry has proved invaluable.
Mr. Reiling currently manages the logistics and grain brokerage for Agra Risk Solutions Inc.
Mr. Kopp was raised in the Strathmore area. Upon completion of high school, he attended University of Lethbridge where he graduated with a B.Mgt. Finance and Accounting Degree. Since then, he has gained experience working in a variety of industries, working with the financial operations of companies such as the Forzani Group, Atco Group and Seminole Group. Mr. Kopp furthered his education by receiving his Certified General Accountant Designation in 2009. This allowed him to more strategically consult and train firms to refine its operations in the most effective way possible. His partnership with Mr. Appleyard began in March 2009 while working as Cattleland Feedyard’s controller.
His expertise in his field continues to provide Agra Risk Solutions Inc. with exceptional financial analyses and consultation.
Melissa Miller is local to the Strathmore area. In 2016 Ms. Miller decided to move to Saskatchewan to pursue a career in Agriculture. After first starting as an Administrative Assistant at a grain elevator she quickly took on the role of Logistics Coordinator for the company. As the Logistics Coordinator she oversaw all grain movement by trucks in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Before Ms. Miller returned to Alberta in 2019, she obtained certificates in Basis Trading and was Merchant Assistant to a West Central Saskatchewan Grain Buyer. Upon returning to Strathmore Ms. Miller worked at a local feedlot as a Cattle Administrator/Bookkeeper. Within this new role Ms. Miller facilitated the daily processes at the feedlot including incoming and outcoming cattle, grain deliveries, drug orders and processing all payables and receivables.
Market Analyst and Systems Administrator
Claire Muenchrath joined the Agra Risk team in May of 2016 upon being rewarded the Agra Risk Solutions Scholarship and Internship Program. She was employed under the internship program for 3 years, where she gained valuable exposure to many different areas of the business including marketing, finance and cattle operations management. During this time, she was also completing her Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a specialization in Finance and Risk Management, from the University of Calgary. Upon graduation in July 2019, Claire joined Agra Risk full-time as a Market Analyst and Systems administrator, with her main role in assisting in the risk management and operations management of both the Canadian and US cattle inventories. Claire has also recently completed her Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course as well as her Certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies.
Claire grew up on an acreage south of Strathmore and has family roots in grain farming and ranching in the Oyen, AB region. Having grown up working for her parent’s business based out of Calgary, AB, Claire has an appreciation of the challenges and determination involved in running a private business.
Cattle Inventory Control
Randi was born and raised in Saskatchewan where she attended the University of Regina, obtaining her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, majoring in Accounting. Once completed, Randi moved to Strathmore, Alberta in January of 2017. Randi started with Agra Risk Solutions in the fall of 2018 as our bookkeeper. Over the summer of 2020 she began transitioning into her Cattle Inventory Control role within the company.
Randi’s background in business has been an asset to both of her positions with Agra Risk Solutions and she is excited to continue to learn about the agricultural industry.
